About us

Southwell Diesel Services was born in 1979 in Wingfield, South Australia.  After working for Cummins for several years in both South Australia and then Queensland, Peter Southwell decided it was time to commence his own business.  With a young family to provide for, and a vision to provide quality repairs to Cummins engines at reasonable prices, the Southwell Diesel story began. Peter quickly built a solid customer base and by 1984 Southwell Diesel Services had outgrown its workshop space in Wingfield. Peter purchased 5 Grainger Road, Elizabeth South, which continues to be the home of Southwell Diesel Services today.

Peter and Southwell Diesel Services gave several apprentices a start over the years. In 1991, Peter welcomed his youngest son Scott to the business, who quickly proved his worth as a talented mechanic.  Peter and Scott worked alongside one another for the next 15 years.  In 2006 Scott officially took ownership of the business, and Peter moved into retirement.

MEET THE OWNER

Scott Southwell is a name well know amongst the Heavy Vehicle industry in South Australia.  Scott often finds himself being called upon to provide advice, support and opinion to other businesses, and is definitely the ‘go to man’ for more complex mechanical issues.  He prides himself on delivering a second to none service that can be relied upon, whether at the workshop or in the field.

A WORD FROM SCOTT SOUTHWELL

The business has kept the same basic goal over the years, while expanding our field of expertise from specialising only in Cummins engines to cover not only most heavy diesel engines but the whole drive line of most heavy vehicles. We still have a special interest in Cummins engines, and they definitely make up more than their fair share of our work load.

Our customer base is made up mainly of small business with a large chunk being owner drivers who appreciate the small and friendly nature of Southwell Diesel Services as well as my hands on approach.  You are just as likely to find me under a truck carrying out repairs as you are in the office dealing with the everyday office work that comes with all small business.

I take great pride in being entrusted to keep the trucks that I service on the road, knowing that many people’s livelihood depends on having a reliable, safe and road worthy vehicle which delivers optimum performance.
